Comply with regulations
Every company is free to edit and personalize authorization forms, as long as the European requirements for the form are met. You can find these requirements in Rabobank’s Regulations. If you do not meet these requirements, the authorization is not valid and the payee has 13 months to request the reversal of the direct debit (Notification of Unjustified Collection).
No need to fill in BIC in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands it has been agreed that a Dutch account holder only needs to fill in his IBAN (the standard for European account numbers) and never the BIC (Bank Identification Code) on an authorization. The absence of the BIC can then never be a reason for a Notification of Unjustified Collection. Rabobank automatically completes this for you once you have submitted the direct debit instructions.
A foreign account holder does have to fill in his BIC on the authorization form. Otherwise the authorization is not legally valid and you run the risk of the direct debit being reversed. Rabobank also automatically completes the BIC for foreign account numbers. Filling in a foreign BIC on the authorization form is therefore only a formality for billers at Rabobank.
