Gerrit Kattenberg takes over the delivery services Nunspeet – Harderwijk and Nunspeet – Elburg – Kampen for 800 guilders on July 1, 1904. For this sum Gerrit Kattenberg receives a horse and carriage and the accumulated clientele. In the villages and towns along the IJsselmeer, the carrier delivers butter, cheese and eggs, among other things. Gerrit Kattenberg transports this to various markets in the region, mainly the butter market in Harderwijk. Gradually, Gerrit Kattenberg takes more and more things with him for people who cannot transport them themselves. This is how the first removals in Kattenberg’s history come about, and the delivery service is combined with furniture transport. It is the beginning of expedition Kattenberg at Lindelaan 7 in Nunspeet. Gerrit Kattenberg does everything with horse and carriage and expedition Kattenberg becomes more and more a household name in Nunspeet. The number of customers is growing and son Henk Kattenberg joins his father’s company.
Moving!
Henk Kattenberg takes over the business from his father Gerrit Kattenberg in 1948. Six years later, in 1954, Kattenberg celebrates its 50th anniversary. The newspaper ‘Nunspeet Vooruit’ headlines that year: “Freight service that inspires confidence!” A slogan that in modified form will still adorn the logo of Kattenberg Removals. “He who travels far can tell many stories” is a well-known proverb, but so can those who have run a transportation company for 50 years. This joyous fact fell to Mr. G. Kattenberg. The business has changed and expanded drastically in 50 years. The horse and carriage made way to the first delivery truck right after World War II. Transport was now much faster. In 1954 the Firma Kattenberg drives daily with two cars the route Harderwijk and Vierhouten and three times a week to Elspeet. In addition to these regular services, Kattenberg transported “occasional goods” throughout the country in cooperation with other companies. The bid service increasingly characterizes itself as a moving service. After the war the company grew and hired more personnel. In October 1959 expedition Kattenberg moves from Lindelaan 7 to Aarweg 31 in Nunspeet.
Family business grows into international moving and transport company
As “grandfather” G. Kattenberg started the company alone almost 80 years ago, today there are five employees. The company grew from a messenger service to a moving and transport company. After moving from Lindelaan to Aarweg in 1959, “grandson” Gert Kattenberg took over the company from his father Henk Kattenberg in 1983. The industry rose and Kattenberg company was allowed to drive for various factories. The company on Aarweg currently consists of a modern specialized fleet of vehicles with two large moving vans, two open trailers and a fixed van with a hydraulic crane. With the purchase of a moving elevator that can be erected to a height of 15 meters within minutes, moving problems have become a thing of the past. The Kattenbergs believe that the work should be done professionally, especially by a certified moving company. “You are handling someone else’s belongings and people trust you to handle them with care. That trust should certainly not be betrayed.” What is involved in a move? “For starters, the packing.” Explains Gert. “One can do this themselves, but also have us take care of it. There are special folding boxes for this. Special tools are available for transporting grand pianos and pianos. Disassembling and assembling cabinets and beds can also be done by the moving company.”
Housing made to measure!
In September 1992, Kattenberg Verhuizingen’s new premises at Marconiweg 5 were officially inaugurated. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. H. Kattenberg, himself at the helm of the family business for more than 30 years. The company has now grown into much more than just a moving company; Kattenberg characterizes itself as a logistics service provider, and multifunctional housing fits the bill. Besides the main activity of removals for companies and private individuals, both nationally and internationally, the company handles the transport of vulnerable goods such as furniture and kitchens. They are also experts in the field of transport with a car with a loading crane. This is used to transport building materials and machines, among other things. The new location offers many advantages. Whereas Kattenberg Removals was previously located in a built-up area, it is now easily accessible on an industrial estate. There are two offices and a spacious canteen above the multifunctional hall, suitable for storage and distribution center.

Kattenberg Removals has joined Mondial Movers B.V., the national network of recognized removal companies. Kattenberg joined this network in order to guarantee national coverage for large projects. This allows large tenders to be carried out jointly. Kattenberg is a long-established family business with a good reputation and extensive experience in office and project removals as well as private removals.
